Patrick Haesler

Musician - Producer - Composer

Patrick Haesler is a composer, performer, sound designer and recording artist from Canberra, Australia (Ngunnawal Country). Beginning as a trumpet player, Patrick has since branched into numerous musical fields, drawing influences from jazz and progressive music.

Throughout his completion of a Bachelor’s degree in music from the ANU (majoring in composition), Patrick developed capabilities in a range of musical styles and technologies and instruments. Patrick has composed and arranged for countless ensemble sizes and makeups including classical ensembles, piano trio, jazz combos and big bands, rock and pop ensembles, horn sections and orchestras and unique combination of instruments. Patrick has deep experience with music production, working primarily with Ableton Live. This has allowed him to render full recordings of compostions, as well as mix and master recorded music and sound. Drawing on this skillset, Patrick has released several albums, EPs and Singles under his own name. He has also developed a strong proficiency in scoring to picture (film, tv, video-games and other A/V mediums)

In 2018 Patrick entered the world of theatre, acting as musical director for ANU’s Arts Revue. Since then, he has reprised this role as well as composing music and designing sound for several theatre productions. In 2021, Patrick’s soundtrack for Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ was released as The Scottish Album (Original Theatre Soundtrack). The album features a host of talented guest musicians and collaborators performing original compositions to accompany the play. Patrick’s experience with a wide variety of musical genres, ensembles and production techniques have made him a versatile creative in the world of music and sound.

Patrick’s experience in sound design and composition for both theatre and film scoring. This has led to various other projects in recent years:

  • Sound design and music for The Initiation, How To Vote!, Soul Trading, and The Trials for Canberra Youth Theatre (2022-23)

  • Sound design and music for It’s Not Creepy If They’re Hot (2019) and Dracula (2022) for the National Univeristy Theatre Society (NUTS)

  • Production, bass and trumpet on the album “A smell of petroleum prevails throughout” by System Strength (2022)

  • Macbeth (2020), The Tempest (2021), and Twelfth Night (2021) for the ANU Shakespeare Society (ShakeSoc)

  • Scoring for climate change documentary produced by Climate for Change (2021)

  • Scoring for short films “The Last Lake Monster”, “Blame Game”, and “No Red Flags” produced by Griffin Hall (2019-21)

  • Composition of the podcast theme for “The Nimon Be Praised” (2020)

Patrick also works as a Music and English tutor in the Canberra region and is currently undertaking a Master’s in Secondary Teaching at the University of Canberra
